Day 4-Expression

“Feeling gratitude and not expressing it is like wrapping a present and not giving it.”

– William Arthur Ward

A prayer of thanksgiving, a warm smile, and a bouquet of flowers are small but powerful ways to show gratitude. But how do you say thank you for the talents that you have received?  How do you show appreciation for your  gifts of knowledge, creativity, and intellectual strength?

This time of the year can feel daunting to educators. We are more than halfway through the school year, yet we still have lots of teaching and learning ahead of us. We can take solace in the fact that we have been blessed with the tools of reflection, organization, the unique ability to understand children who sometimes do not understand themselves, and the gift of imparting knowledge in a way that makes students inquisitive about the world around them. How do we say thank you for those capabilities? We say thank you by continuing to give ourselves each and every day. When we get weary, we should remember that work is an expression of gratitude for being blessed with our extraordinary talents.

  1. When you shared your question about how do you show your appreciation for your gifts and talents, I was thinking the same as you ended … Use them! You said it more eloquently, of course. So happy you shared this expression of gratitude — a great reminder as we push forward to the end of the year!
